Mrs. Kim's Kindergarten Class

  • September 2017

    Dear Families,

Welcome to Kindergarten at Fairmount School!

My name is Mrs. Kim and I am going to be your child's Kindergarten teacher!  I love all the fun we get to have in Kindergarten while exploring and learning new things! I am so excited for this year and I cannot wait to get started!

Along with Ms. Deyab, we look forward to working with your child throughout the year and helping them to succeed. We are also looking forward to working with you to create a partnership between school and home that will benefit your child.

Kindergarten is the foundation for the rest of your child's learning experience in school. Please do not think your child will be just "playing" all day! The skills we practice daily in Kindergarten are very important to your child's future success in school and we take them very seriously. Please help your child practice at home in any way you can. Read with your child every night.  We will be sending home homework as well as other suggestions throughout the year to help you and your child master the skills they need to learn.

In order to make this year run smoothly, here are a few notes:

    • Backpack: Send your child to school with a backpack each day. We will be sending home folders and books and they need to carry them home safely.

    • Clothing: Please be sure that your child can fasten and unfasten any buttons and zippers that are on their clothing (pants and jackets/coats). Also, if sending your child to school wearing sneakers with laces, we'd really appreciate you taking the time to teach them how to tie laces. Trying to tie 20 pairs of shoes right after recess can be crazy! Also, we ask that you send a set of extra clothes labeled with their name to keep in their backpack in case of accidents or spills.

    • Folders: We will be sending home important notices in your child's Take Home Folder. Please take the time each night to go through the folder with your child. Please send any notes or completed notices back to school in the folder and we will collect them in the morning.

    • Snack: We have snack everyday in Kindergarten! Please send your child to school with a healthy snack such as cheese and crackers or fruit. We are also a NO PEANUT classroom. Please do not send your child with any snack that has peanuts/peanut butter. There are many students with allergies and we do not wish to cause a reaction.

    • Specials: Here is our specials schedule for every week.

      • Monday- Art

      • Tuesday - Gym

      • Wednesday - Library

      • Thursday - Music

      • Friday - Gym

    • Classroom supplies: Attached is a letter regarding school supplies we are asking for.

    • Survey: Also attached is a family survey that will help me get to know your family and your child better! Please take the time to fill this out and send back to school by  Friday, September 8.

Thank you for helping us to create a partnership to help your child learn and grow this school year! If you have any questions, concerns, or suggestions, you can always contact me by calling the school at (201) 646- 7890 and leaving me a message, sending a note to school in your child's folder, or emailing me at We are going to have a lot of fun this year and I look forward to hearing from you!
