Black History Month Message from Dr. McBryde Jr.

Dear Hackensack Community,

As we embark upon the first day of Black History Month, I am filled with a profound sense of reflection, celebration, pride and commitment to honor the invaluable contributions, achievements, and rich cultural heritage of Black Americans throughout history. This month, we stand united in recognizing the indelible mark that Black Americans have made on our society, culture, and the world.

Black History Month provides us with a unique opportunity to celebrate the remarkable accomplishments of Black Americans throughout history, acknowledging their resilience, creativity, and perseverance in the face of adversity. Black History Month is not just a time to reflect on the struggles and triumphs of the past; it is a call to action to confront systemic injustices, challenge prejudice, and promote equality and equity for all. It is a reminder that the pursuit of justice and equality is an ongoing journey that requires each of us to actively participate in creating a more inclusive and compassionate community.

In our schools, we recognize the importance of fostering an inclusive and supportive environment that embraces diversity. Throughout our schools and community, we have the opportunity to uplift Black voices, celebrate Black excellence, and amplify the stories and achievements of Black trailblazers in every field. From influential figures in science, literature, and the arts to trailblazers in civil rights and social justice, we aim to inspire and empower our students by sharing stories that highlight the strength of the human spirit and the power of unity. By integrating Black history into our curriculum, engaging in meaningful dialogue, and fostering spaces of inclusivity and respect, we can cultivate a deeper understanding and appreciation of the rich tapestry of Black heritage.

This month, let us commit ourselves to not only commemorating the past but also to shaping a more equitable future. Let us amplify the voices of those who have been marginalized, advocate for justice, and strive to create a society where every individual is empowered to thrive and succeed regardless of race, ethnicity, or background.

I encourage each member of our Hackensack community to engage in thoughtful reflection, dialogue, and action throughout Black History Month and beyond.
