The ABA Preschool Class
The ABA preschool classes are small self-contained highly structured classes that utilize the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA). The classes are taught by trained staff in the principles of applied behavior analysis.
ABA focuses on positive reinforcement strategies. It can help children who are having difficulty learning or acquiring new skills. It can also address problem behaviors that interfere with functioning. The principles and methods of behavior analysis have been applied effectively in many circumstances to develop a wide range of skills in learners with and without disabilities.
The ABA preschool classes:
Ø Establish and provide effective language based behavioral interventions in the classroom
Ø Provide intensive behavioral intervention that incorporate effective educational services within public school classroom environments
Ø Provide a classroom schedule that will allow for high frequency of learner responding to high-priority learning tasks
Ø Assess learner skills with in depth assessments in order to construct an IEP to ensure the development of language and other important learner skills
Ø Utilizes methods for implementing behavioral language training strategies in a small group format
Ø The critical elements of discrete trial instruction can be implemented within the child’s typical daily events.
Ø Data collection systems are used for monitoring student progress
- ABA principles can be applied for students with autism spectrum disorders and/or students with significant behavior problems related to skill acquisition.
- ABA procedures can be used to increase desired behaviors, decrease inappropriate behaviors, and to teach new behaviors to students of all functioning levels.
Will ABA Benefit My Child?
Is your child…
Ø …having difficulty learning?
Ø …having problems acquiring new skills?
Ø …having difficulty communicating?
Ø …experiencing problem behaviors* that get in the way of functioning?
If your child has any of these or other concerning behaviors, an ABA-based approach to behavior intervention may be useful.
*Problem behaviors may include temper tantrums, aggression, or self-injury.
