My name is Ms. Davila. I am the Vocal and General Music Teacher at Fairmount School. I direct the Third and Fourth Grade Glee Club and teach Kindergarten - Fourth Grade General Music. Here are a few questions students have asked about me:
What instruments do you play? "I am a soprano vocalist, but I also love to play the piano, guitar and flute."
Where did you go to school? "I graduated with a Bachelors of Music Education from Susquehanna University and my Masters of Vocal Performance from Montclair State University.
Do you still perform and sing? "I currently sing and play keyboard in a jazz and rock band. I also sing and play the flute for wedding ceremonies and cocktail hours. Past ensembles include the New York Choral Society,New Jersey Association of Verismo Opera and Montclair State University vocal program. I am continuing my studies in classical and opera vocal performance and also try to write and record my own personal music as much as possible."
Did you always want to be a music teacher? "When I was younger I was always involved in chorus, band and school musicals but I wanted to be a math teacher, kindergarten teacher or librarian. It was not until I was a senior in high school that I decided to become a music teacher. It was the best decision I ever made!"
What are some of your hobbies? "I love traveling, hiking, going for walks, exploring nature, dancing and exercising! I also love to listen to music, including pop, r&b, hip hop, country, classic rock, salsa, bachata, traditional irish celtic, classical, opera, reggae and jazz music! Currently, my favorite band is VULFPECK."
Why do you love music so much? "I love making music because when you perform a song, or write a piece of music, you feel a sense of pride that you created something special and unique... something that other people can enjoy. I also love that music has the ability to make me feel different emotions. It makes me want to get up and dance. I love music because it is a way to express one's self in ways that words can not."
