Concert Band

  • Hello Everyone,

WELCOME BACK!!!! As we start school year 2019-2020 let me remind you of a few very important things:

    1) Classroom rules, expectations and a syllabus were sent home on the first day of school. Signed syllabi are past due. Please return any outstanding syllabi immediately.

    2) Instruments are EXPENSIVE! It is your responsibility to care for and maintain your assigned instrument. Normal wear and tear will be fixed in house by me (when appropriate). Repairs caused by neglect or carelessness will be repaired at the expense of the parent/student the instrument is assigned.

    3) Routines are important! Each day students should enter the classroom, get their instrument and music folder, sit down and warm-up. Class begins promptly 5 minutes after the late bell rings! This does NOT mean you have an extra 5 minutes to get to class! If you are not in your seat ready to play after 5 minutes you are considered late...whether you are physically in the room or not!

    4) Below are the concert dates for the year. Please mark them on your calendar. Attendance at these performances are mandatory.

    Winter Concert - December 11, 2019 @ HHS Auditorium 7 pm start.

Instrumental (Band) Spring Concert - April 30, 2020 @ HHS Auditorium 7 pm start

Final Exam - Concert Band will have a mandatory rehearsal in the band room during the final exam schedule. All underclassmen must attend!

Graduation - June 26, 2020 - 4:15 pm Report Time (Band Room)Concert attire should be worn: Black bottoms (bermuda type shorts are ok) and white tops (polo shirts are ok) with black shoes. No basketball shorts, jeans or sneakers please! Ladies do not need to wear stockings and gentlemen do not need to wear a tie. Please use sunscreen and bring a pair of sunglasses. Attendance is mandatory for all underclassmen!

Also, instrumental lessons will begin the first week of October. All students currently enrolled in the Concert Band class and/or Wind Ensemble class will receive one 40-minute group lesson per week on a rotating basis. This is in addition to their normal class time. Lesson attendance counts as 50% of the student's grade so attendance is extremely important!

Lesson schedules are posted in the band room, the music hallway bulletin board and on this website.

Lastly, if you click on "My Resources" you will be able to access fingering charts for all of the band instruments. This will be handy if you forget how to play a certain note! Print it out and keep a copy at home.
