Only the attached classes have mandatory summer assignments. Students elect to take these classes and the summer assignment serves to prepare for the rigor of the courses and allow for additional units of study in preparation for the May Advanced Placement Exams.
All students are encouraged to read over the summer. This year, the HHS English Department invites you to choose a reading from our list below. It was compiled with the help of our Johnson Public Library, our own Librarian, and includes some teacher picks. There is no assignment, nothing due, no papers to submit for grading. We just want you to find a title you like and read. This article from Atlanticteen 5 BENEFITS OF READING OVER THE SUMMER offers 5 reasons why you should spend some time reading this summer and every summer! Also, if you would like to keep a log of your reading and share it with your teacher for extra credit, please complete the Cornell Notes Template for each chapter of your Book.
