Proper Email "Netiquette"
Posted by on 9/26/2010 10:10:00 PMWhile everyone understands how important it is to follow certain rules when writing a formal letter, they often forget these rules when typing an email.- Correct Spelling and Proper Grammar: Always use a dictionary or spell check your email before pressing the send button. It is acceptable to write in a conversational tone, but pay attention to the rules of grammar.
- Proper Punctuation and Capitalization: Sending emails with run-on sentences and no capitalization is very unprofessional. Although email is considered less formal than traditional mail, punctuation and capitalization is still required.
It is strongly suggested that students register for a free school email account for various reasons.
- For instance, email addresses such as "cutie125@**** .com" are not appropriate for correspondence with teachers, employers, colleges, and anyone whom you want to take you seriously. Remember, email addresses of this sort do not reflect well on college or job applications and resumes.
- Registering for a school email account is also useful for emailing essays and homework assignments to yourself. As most of you know, many traditional email accounts cannot be accessed through the school's computers. Many of you also have problems opening files from floppy disks or USB drives. Having a school email account where you can readily access your work will avoid any unexpected problems software/hardware compatibility issues.
