    HPS Open for in-person instruction on Jan 10, 2022

    Dear Hackensack Public Schools Community

    First and foremost, I hope this letter finds you and your family healthy and safe.  Over the past few weeks we have witnessed an increase in positive COVID-19 cases across the District. This is consistent with the trend being seen throughout the state. As you are aware, we continually consult with the Hackensack Health Department and closely monitor the COVID-19 data within our schools, city limits and region to create the safest possible environment for our entire school community.  With that said, I am pleased to announce that after carefully looking at our data, all Hackensack Public Schools will be open for in-person instruction on Monday, January 10, 2022.  Of course, staying open requires that we all do our part.  You can help us stay safe by following the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention promoted safeguards, such as:

    • Keeping your child home when sick;

    • Practicing social distancing;

    • Wearing a mask; and

    • Continuing to monitor your child’s health for symptoms and updating your child’s Health Screener if your child is currently ill, has tested positive for COVID-19 or has been exposed to a positive case of COVID-19 by following this link which can also be found on our district website (Student COVID Update Health Screener).

    As we move forward, we will continue to keep open lines of communication with our local health officials to ensure the safest possible environment for our entire school community.   To that end, in conjunction with the Hackensack Health Department, we have established the following guidelines and protocols for extracurricular activities that will be reevaluated weekly while we remain in the “red” “very high risk” CALI category on the NJDOH’s  COVID-19 Activity Level Index (CALI)

    The District will:

    • Continue to adhere to the mask mandate at all events inside our schools

      • For athletics, everyone not actively participating must wear a mask (inclusive of coaches and athletes on the bench)

    • Practice social distancing, wherever possible

    • Remind participants to stay home when sick

    • Offer onsite COVID-19 testing for those participants who choose to get tested

    • Limit spectator attendance to two adults per athlete and/or extracurricular participant.  Siblings are permitted as long as they are accompanied by an adult.  Family units will be asked to sit together at events.

    • Concession stands will be closed.  No food or drink will be permitted at events while indoors

    Thank you for your continued patience and support as we navigate the ongoing challenges of the pandemic.
