Welcome to my classroom website!
Bienvenidos a Español!
I would like to personally welcome parents and students and thank you for being involved and supporting World Language at the 5/6 and 7/8 wings of the Hackensack Middle School. As I have been instructing Spanish for a number of years at Hackensack Middle School, as each school year commences, I become increasingly excited, enthusiastic, and am always honored to facilitate Spanish instruction and to be an integral part of all of the childrens' lives at HMS. I believe in reaching all children socially and academically and will do whatever it takes to attain this goal. I welcome and encourage ongoing parent/student conversations so that all children are given every opportunity to reach their fullest potential.
Spanish class is a highly interactive course. As a department, coursework is aligned and monitored so that all children enrolled in Spanish are exposed to a broad range of curricula. Students are encouraged to work in pairs, cooperative groups and to exchange dialogue as a means of carrying out assignments. Methodologies are not limited to but include cooperative learning, brainstorming, read-alouds, discussion, paired work, self/peer-editing, oral presentations, paired discussion, group work, picture prompts, games and projects, dialogue, problem solving, technology, and oral reinforcement.
Students are assessed in a variety of ways. Examples are not limited to but include classroom participation, tests, quizzes, projects, and homework on an as needed basis. A variety of rubrics are used to monitor and assess student progress and growth. These include Writing rubrics, Role-play/Oral Presentation rubrics, Collaborative rubrics (group/paired work), Project rubrics and the like. Rubrics are provided in advance and are posted in the classroom so that all students are aware of assignment expectations and what they need to do to successfully carry out their work. Additionally, children are provided with portfolios at the beginning of the school year that they make use of throughout marking periods one through four. Children are encouraged to maintain a record of their growth and to reflect upon their achievements and needs for improvement. At the end of each marking period students reflect on their work and project goals for each subsequent marking period.
Children are encouraged to make appointments with me in the event that they have any questions, concerns or would simply like further clarification on a topic or concept. I schedule my appointments in Room 110N in the Middle School.
I truly appreciate this opportunity to provide some insight on Spanish at HMS. Please feel free to contact me at any time should you have any questions, concerns, or wish to make suggestions. You may e-mail me at f.campolo@hackensackschools.org or call the school phone 201-646-7841 and leave a message with the secretary and I will return your call in a timely fashion. I thank you for taking the time to read and better understand an overview of my class, methodologies and HMS Spanish Instruction and look forward to your continued communication and involvement throughout the school year.
Respectfully,
Mrs. Campolo
