    History

Today, our children are desperately searching for engaging and constructive activities. At the Hackensack Middle School, we have a free after school dance program. This coed program is open to all children. “DC2” (Dance Crew 2) attracts children of different abilities and backgrounds and is based on eight years of a successful program launched at Nellie K. Parker Elementary School in Hackensack.

As many of the children were graduating from the program at Nellie K. Parker, they would return to dance. It became very evident that there was a definite need to take this program to the next level. With the help from a dedicated group of people, Ms. Robin Cash, Ms. Keesha Frederic, Ms. Cassandra Frederic, Mr. Dennis Henry and a host of other choreographers, this program is here to stay.

The program is geared towards giving the children a sense of pride through exercise and movement. The children are given a boost of self-esteem through positive reinforcement and a safe place to express themselves. Parents are given peace of mind knowing that their children are participating in and enjoying a beneficial program. After approximately 10 weeks of instruction and practice, this project culminates with this dance performance of the participants before their family, friends, peers and community.
